An Illinois man has died in Dickinson County after becoming trapped in a well. It happened just before 2 p.m. Wednesday at a camp in Waucedah Township.
The 77-year-old man, identified as James Ennis from Orland Park, Illinois, had climbed down the 12-foot well to work on it. A friend lowered dry ice to help make repairs.
The dry ice removed oxygen from the well and caused Ennis to lose consciousness while trying to climb out. The friend contacted Dickinson County 911.
They pulled Ennis out of the well and performed CPR, but he could not be revived.
