The Michigan State Police investigated an off road vehicle injury crash in Munising Township Sunday.
Officials report that the crash occurred at 5:30 p.m. Sunday on County Road H58 in the vicinity of the Bear Trap Dam. James Welsh, a 49-year-old Farmington Hills resident, and a 20-year-old family member were returning to a camp near Melstrand when the crash happened.
Welsh was following the 20-year-old when the tires of their respective vehicles collided. Welsh lost control of his vehicle and was ejected. He was wearing a helmet at the time.
He was transported by Alger County EMS to Marquette General Hospital where he is currently listed in critical condition. The driver of the other ORV was not injured.
An advanced accident investigator from the Michigan State Police Negaunee post assisted at the scene. The crash remains under investigation.
