      Man killed in lightning-started blaze

A 79-year-old man was killed in a house fire that is believed to have been started by a lightning strike.

According to the Luce County Sheriff's Department, Forrest Alan Rank was the lone occupant in the home that burned down at 5:49 a.m. on Thursday morning. When crews arrived, the home was engulfed in flames.

The sheriff's department believes that the fatal fire began when lightning struck during Wednesday night's thunderstorms.

Officials are still investigating the house fire, and are not releasing any additional information at this time. The Columbus Township Fire Department, Newberry Fire Department and Luce County EMS and sheriff departments responded to the scene.
