The Forsyth Township man charged with shooting his neighbor's dog pled guilty on Monday in Marquette County Circuit Court.
Sixty-five-year-old Michael Baumann was before Judge Thomas Solka where he and his attorney reached a deal with Marquette County Prosecutor Matt Wiese. The deal saw Baumann plead guilty to the felony charge of committing a reckless act causing an animal to die or sustain injury, while two other charges were dropped.
In court, Baumann said he shot his neighbor's dog, Mitzy, with a .22 cal. rifle when the dog was on his property. Mitzy did survive but has permanent damage to her head and stomach.
Baumann could face up to four years in prison and up to $5,000 in fines for the crime. His sentencing date is set for December 20.
