Troopers from the Calumet Post were called to an apartment on 8th Street in Lake Linden around 8 p.m. Friday night for a report of a gunshot. The victim, a 48-year-old female, told troopers that someone had shot at her apartment.
The investigation revealed the tenant in the apartment across the hall, a 39-year-old male, had fired a shotgun through his apartment wall at the victim's apartment. This was in apparent retaliation to a fight that had occurred earlier between the suspect and a 23-year-old male who had been in the victim's apartment.
Troopers attempted to contact the suspect, but he would not come to the door. A search warrant was obtained for the apartment and the suspect was located inside of the apartment.
The shotgun used in the incident was also recovered.
The suspect was lodged in the Houghton County Jail on felonious assault charges. The name of the suspect will not be released pending review of the report by the Houghton County Prosecutor and his arraignment in District Court.
Troopers were assisted with the investigation by the Houghton County Sheriff's Department.
