Man stands mute, facing charges for wife's murder

The man accused of beating his wife to death appeared in court on Wednesday but stood mute to charges of second degree murder.

Nima Nassiri appeared in Houghton County Circuit Court for his arraignment on Wednesday after he waived his preliminary hearing in district court on Monday.

Nassiri stood mute, which means the court will enter a plea of not guilty. The 34-year-old man faces second degree murder charges after he allegedly beat his young wife, causing her death. His pretrial is scheduled to be in approximately 30 days.

If convicted, Nassiri could spend life behind bars or any number of years. He's currently in the Houghton County Jail on a five million dollar bond.
