Man stands mute on sex crime charges

A Negaunee man stood mute by mail Friday to criminal sexual misconduct charges according to the Marquette County Clerk's Office.

Sixty-two-year-old William Arbelius was arrested on March 7 on three charges of criminal sexual conduct in the second degree. The charges stem from an alleged incident in Ishpeming Township involving a 29-year-old mentally disabled woman.

Arbelius, a former Republic Township police officer, was working for Marq-Tran as a driver when the incident occurred. A new court will be determined at a scheduling conference which has not been set.
