What once was believed to have been lost, has been saved without a break in the action.
The Trout and Salmon Fishing Derby in Manistique was supposed to have ended, but the Manistique Sport Fishing Club has stepped in to keep the derby alive. All of the rules and prizes from the derby's past are being preserved from before.
The derby was saved by a group that is always excited to see the derby every year.
"I love this week. I take the whole week off vacation and it's fun," says Brett Tallman of the Sports Fishing Club. "All of my buddies come up. I've got a buddy that comes up from Wisconsin and fishes with me every year and another buddy coming from New York."
The derby is scheduled for July 26 and 27, with pre-fishing July 21 through 23.
Registration costs $25 per person and that fee includes pre fishing. Money from the registration will go towards the raffle prizes as well as the final payout.
