A 58-year-old Manistique man was arrested early morning Tuesday for attempted murder.
According to the Manistique Public Safety Department, around 11:50 p.m. on Monday an ambulance was called to 631 Michigan Avenue for a report of a woman who had received a severe wound to the throat. Public Safety officers immediately treated and transported the 31-year-old Manistique female to Schoolcraft Memorial Hospital. Officials determined that the incident occurred at 637 Michigan Avenue, and the victim went to the home next door to seek assistance.
Officers determined that a 58-year-old Manistique male resident located at 651 Garden Avenue was responsible for the assault. He was placed under arrested at approximately 2:00 a.m. The suspect was charged with attempted murder and lodged at Schoolcraft County Sheriff's Department under no bond conditions.
Officials report that the victim's wound was serious; however she has been released from the hospital.
The names of the victim and the suspect are not being released at this time, pending formal charges. The suspect's arraignment is expected to take place on Wednesday.
Manistique Public Safety was assisted in the investigation by officers of the Michigan State Police and Sault Tribal Police Departments.
