A 35-year-old Manistique man is facing a charge of attempted murder after an alleged home invasion left another man injured and in need of medical attention.
According to the Manistique Department of Public Safety, 51-year-old Michael Henry Chapek was injured early Wednesday morning during an assault at his home on Range Street in Manistique. Police say that their investigation revealed that Gordon Daniel Baker II, 35, was the suspect in the assault and home invasion incident.
Baker was arrested and taken to the Schoolcraft County Jail on charges of attempted murder, home invasion, and driving with a suspended license. He was formally charged on Wednesday morning with first degree home invasion, assault with intent to murder, and assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder. Baker is also being charged as a habitual offender, fourth offense.
Bond was not set for Baker, according to officials. His preliminary hearing is set for September 9 at 1:45 p.m.
Chapek was treated for his injuries and released from a local hospital.
