Still no settlement in the contract dispute between Marquette teachers and the school district.
At the Marquette Area Public School board meeting Monday night, the teachers union president said the two sides are coming closer together, but there is still work to do on the final salary numbers and teacher benefits. School board President Rich Rossway says the board is working hard to come to an agreement and will continue developing new proposals. Teachers say they're frustrated that the issue hasn't been settled.
"We have what looks like all the pieces put together and for us to be talking about this rather than settling this. Theres a lot of things going on. Lots of irons in the fire. To spend time on this and fight each other when we could all work together and move on to do the work we need to do. It's a huge waste of time," said Special Education Teacher, Mike Davis.
Rossway says he understands the teacher's frustrations. He says both teachers and the board are victims of the state of Michigan not funding school districts at an acceptable level.
