This year the proceeds of the annual Marquette Marathon will be going to the Marquette Senior High School Friends of Football. Each year marathon organizers pick a local group in which to donate in exchange for more than 200 volunteers who help with the race. Last year the marathon gave out $17,000. Race organizers explained why the Friends of Football will be this year's recipient.
"They really know what they want to do. They donate their money to the football program at the high school--it's a great group of parents from past and current football players--and they have a really strong determination," said race organizer, Stephanie Zadroga-Langlois.
This is the fourth year for the Marquette Marathon. It is an official qualifier for the Boston Marathon. The race isn't until the end of August, so you still have some time to register, but the price goes up the longer you wait. Right now the cost for the full marathon is $70, $65 for the half marathon.
