The city of Marquette could have a new park along Lakeshore Boulevard. Monday, the city commission voted to apply for a grant for a 14 acre parcel of land along Lakeshore. Michelle Butler, the land owner, has donated a section of land with the hopes of it being turned into a park.
"For a city the size of Marquette to be able to acquire 1,500 feet of Great Lakes frontage so close to Presque Isle, it's really...it's tremendous potential," said Bill Sanders of Sanders & Czapski. "It's a really, really great legacy that Michelle Butler and the family can help the city realize."
Members of the commission reminded those in attendance that this is only a grant application. If the grant is approved, the land would be tested to ensure it's environmentally safe enough for recreation.
