Marquette General Hospital closes in on sites for new facility

Marquette General Hospital announced Wednesday that the hospital has narrowed down the list of potential sites for the new hospital campus.

According to officials with the hospital, a short list of sites within the City of Marquette and Marquette Township have been selected.

"Our team has worked with an independent consultant to evaluate potential locations for our new hospital and medical office facilities," said Ed Banos, CEO of MGH. "We are pleased that we have been able to narrow our selection to a select number of sites within the City and the Township. We are beginning discussions with the property owners and look forward to sharing more information soon about this great development in the community."

According to Marquette Township Manager Randy Girard, three sites in Marquette Township were looked at. This included two sites behind the Westwood Mall and one location near Lowe's.

A consultant with the hospital recently approached the Marquette Golf Club regarding interest in some of their property last week.

The new hospital campus will include a 235-bed facility with a medical office building. Officials expect to finalize the selection for a site within the next 60-to-90 days.
