A rare award was given to the founder of the Upper Peninsula Home Health, Hospice and Private Duty.
Cindy Nyquist received the Lifetime Achievement Award from Hospice Palliative Care Trade Association of Michigan.
Nyquist was chosen to be the recipient because of her dedication to providing hospice care. She created the first hospice organization in Michigan back in the early 70s.
Nyquist says it's not about end of life care; it's about making sure people with terminal illness are empowered and start living the life they want.
"I feel very blessed and honored and totally surprised, cause it's been something that's been a natural progression for me," says Nyquist. "I don't look at it as anything special, I just look at it, this is what we should be doing."
Nyquist says it's not about her; it's about a team working together to improve the quality of life of those in hospice care.
