The Marquette Maritime Museum has dubbed August as Maritime Month. For the past nine years, the museum has hosted many events throughout August that celebrate the rich history of shipping on the Great Lakes. On Wednesday, the museum will be holding an open house from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. as part of the celebration.
"One of our biggest challenges is trying to get our locals to come in and see what we're all about. We thought the best way to do that would be to have an open house for them and have them come in free of charge, see what we have, enjoy some refreshments and just learn about the history that's right in their backyard," said Carrie Fries, Director of the Marquette Maritime Museum.
The open house is for more than just area residents, everybody is able to attend. All kinds of activities will be going on that will include games and refreshments, plus there will be an opportunity to win a free family membership. For the open house, the museum will stay open until 7 p.m., instead of the normal closing time of 5 p.m.
