The City of Marquette and the Marquette County Solid Waste Management are pooling resources. They're building a new recycling transfer center in an expansion of the city's recycling program.
It's not much to look at now, but city officials say the center should be completely finished by October 1st of this year. The facility will essentially be a centralized collection center for processing your recyclables.
That's something officials say will ultimately be more effective and cost-efficient for Marquette residents.
"If you have a lot of small recycling programs, they're not going to be effective. But a large recycling program that everybody in the county can participate in is very valuable".
The city will hold public forums to address any questions about the new program. They're scheduled on Monday, May 5 from 4-6 pm and Tuesday, May 6 from 11 am to 1 pm in the Peter White Public Library Shiras Room and on Wednesday May 7 from 6-8pm at Marquette Commons.
