Community members gathered at Northern Michigan University on Monday for the 7th annual Evergreen Award of Marquette County.
The Evergreen Award honors an individual that shows dedication in mentoring women and children to help them reach their leadership potential. The recipient also excels in their business, profession, and volunteerism, and this year the award went to Michele Butler.
Butler devotes her time to more than a dozen organizations including the Noquemanon Trail Network, the Rotary Clubs, UP 200, Habitat for Humanity, and she campaigned to raise more than three million dollars to build the YMCA.
"It's overwhelming," said Butler. "I mean, I'm really humbled to be considered part of a group of people that have made such a difference in Marquette and yeah, I'm overwhelmed."
The Evergreen Award is organized by the Marquette Area Zonta Club.
