Starting Sunday, May 11, the City of Marquette will make some adjustments to its curbside recyclable collection.
Recyclables will now be separated into two separate streams â?? fibers and rigids â?? which will be collected on alternating weeks along with garbage collection.
Fibers include papers, cardboard materials, paper bags, etc. Rigids are plastics, metal and glass materials and so on.
Everything that can't be recycled has to go to the landfill. The City encourages residents to contribute as little as possible to the landfill, through recycling, composting and re-using.
Items that canâ??t be recycled curbside include foams, films, photo paper, food- or grease-coated items, bubble envelopes and organic materials.
To answer any questions or concerns concerning these changes, the City will host three forums open to the public during the first week of May.
The forums will be on Monday, May 5th from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the Peter White Public Libraryâ??s Shiras Room, Tuesday, May 6th from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the same location and on Wednesday, May 7th from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Marquette Commons.
