      MDOT preparing for annual public meetings

      Construction season is inching closer and closer.

      As it approaches, the Michigan Department of Transportation is holding their annual public meetings at the end of April. Three meetings will be held across the Upper Peninsula, providing information on road and bridge projects planned over the next five years.

      Some of the bigger projects in the near future include construction along US-2 in downtown Ironwood, upgrades to the Portage Lake Lift Bridge, as well as construction on US-2 around Manistique.

      "These are plans that are already on the drawing board. So we will be able to tell people what roads are being worked on, how many miles, what the cost of the project is, what it's going to mean for them, we'll have a bunch of maps and other information about the projects that are coming up this year," said Dan Weingarten, Communications Representative of MDOT Superior Region.

      General information on projects beyond the next year will also be included at the meetings.
