      Michigamme pulls together

The township of Michigamme is coming together to help a firefighter battling cancer. John Leaf has been on the Michigamme Volunteer Fire Department for more than 30 years.

He's been diagnosed with a form of bone marrow cancer and is going to the Mayo Clinic for a transplant this June. His brother has been selected as a perfect match for the transplant. Saturday at the Michigamme Township Hall, his friends and family have organized a spaghetti dinner, and auction.

"We would hope people would come and support John, a lot of his co-workers and a lot of his friends and family, just to come and help us raise a little money to help pay the bills, obviously this is going to be a pretty costly endeavor," said Organizer Charlie Gardner.

The event gets underway at 4 p.m. at the Michigamme Township Hall. Items for the auction have been donated by local businesses as well as some talented individuals. All money raised will go to help Leaf offset his medical expenses.
