On Saturday, many residents cleaned out medicine cabinets for National Prescription Take-Back Day.
The nationwide initiative collects unwanted prescription drugs, to safely dispose of them.
It aims to prevent accidental ingestion, misuse or abuse of medication.
Many Dickinson County residents took advantage and brought unused pills to the Michigan State Police Post in Iron Mountain.
"It gives them someplace to get rid of the pills instead of flushing them down the toilet," says Sgt. Brian Carlson of the Michigan State Police. "That goes right into the water."
The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) says the five previous take back days removed over two million pounds of medications.
