Michigan State Police trooper injured while pursuing suspect

A Michigan State Police trooper was injured while pursuing a fleeing suspect early Friday morning in Iron River.

According to the MSP, the trooper from the Iron Mountain Post responded to a suspicious situation on Genesee Street. When he arrived he discovered a business window broken and a blood trail leading from the scene.

The trooper followed the blood trail and discovered a 30-year-old suspect a few blocks away. The suspect attempted to flee once the trooper was spotted, according to police. The trooper was injured during the pursuit after falling, but was still able to catch the suspect. The trooper and the suspect were treated for injuries at a nearby hospital.

The suspect remains in custody at the Iron County Jail. No name has been released, pending arraignment.
