Thousands across Michigan took advantage of the free fishing weekend in our state, and the U.P. also delivered.
At Humboldt Township Park, hundreds showed up to take advantage of this freebie. The event is put on by the Humboldt Township Planning Committee each year. People enjoyed fishing with or without a license.
"It's just a great day, good sporting event, keep the kids busy," said Humboldt Township Supervisor Joe Derocha. "So often in today's environment, we're on the iPod or electronic games, and we really like to promote the outdoor activities."
Fishing poles and kayaks were among the prizes awarded.
