Midwest's best racers compete in Snow Drags

Dozens of snow drag racers competed in Crystal Falls Saturday.

It was the annual Chippewa Sno-Kats Snow Drags at the Iron County Airport. The race is organized through the MASTERS Racing Circuit. About 20 of the best snow drag racers in the Midwest competed for the fastest time. Many racers traveled all the way from Wisconsin and Minnesota. Some of the snowmobiles reach 100 miles per hour on the 500-foot track.

"The sport is great. You meet a lot of wonderful people. I've been doing it for about 13 years. It's a great thing to do, and it's a great way to meet people," said racer Jackie Wellems of Andover, MN.

"It's a great sport. We got to keep it alive, got to keep things like this going. It's good for everybody, good for the communities," said Dave Vesel of Ely, MN.

The next race for the MASTERS Racing Circuit will be on March 30 at Big Powderhorn Mountain Resort in Bessemer.
