A Marquette County man missing for more than six hours is found safe Sunday afternoon.
Benjamin Suomi, 79, left his home at 689 Second Street in Republic between 9 a.m. and 10 a.m. in his 1999 Ford Explorer. Around 11 a.m. Suomi's wife contacted the Michigan State Police to report him missing.
She reported Benjamin sufferes from the onset of dementia. She said she believed he was dressed for the conditions. However he did not take any I.D. or his cell phone.
State troopers sent out an area broadcast to all law enfrocement agencies on the disappearance of Benjamin Suomi. As they were notifying the media, a passerby located Suomi at 4:30 p.m.
Police say he was standing outside his vehicle on an unplowed section of River Road in Republic. Suomi had driven his vehicle down the road, became stuck and was stranded with a flat tire.
Authorities say he was in good health. Troopers took Suomi back to his home and released him into the care of his wife.
The Michigan State Police were assisted by Marquette County Search and Rescue.
