Mistrial declared in sex crime case

      Jacob Harvala

The trial of the Iron Mountain man involved in a criminal sexual conduct case has been declared a mistrial.

Twenty-six-year-old Jacob Harvala originally had a trial that ended in a hung jury in March, but after the trial scheduled for this week had technical jury issues, it was deemed a mistrial.

Harvala is charged with three counts of criminal sexual conduct, third degree. The charges stem from Harvala's alleged sexual intercourse with a 15 year-old victim on three occasions between June and September of 2012 in Kingsford.

A new trial has been set for the week of September 23.
