Community leaders from all across Upper Michigan came together Thursday in Munising for the Michigan Municipal League regional workshop.
The summit gave participants from Region 7, which makes up the U.P., an opportunity to network with representatives from municipalities downstate. The summit also featured educational presentations ranging from the U.P.'s changing demographics to the best millage practices. Organizers of the event say this is the only summit of its kind in the state because of the U.P.'s location.
"Region 7, the Upper Peninsula, is the only one who hosts an event like this, simply because of the miles involved. In lower Michigan, they don't have an equivalent," said Munising Mayor Pro-Tem Robert Beauprey.
The seminar will continue Friday morning with a legislative panel discussion and a presentation from law enforcement on new and emerging drugs.
