The Youth Advisory Council in Houghton has over $13,000 in grant money available to organizations to utilize for community projects.
The grants will be given to eligible non-profit organizations for no more than $3,000 per organization. The money is for projects taking place before August 31, 2014 that benefit sixth through twelfth graders in Houghton and Keweenaw counties. Applications for the grants are due by October 4.
The YAC says it's an opportunity for organizations to receive much needed funds to provide services to the community.
"We wanted to benefit the local youth in our area to kind of sway them away from bad decisions of drugs, alcohol, or destructive decisions and really just to promote healthy, fun activities," said YAC co-president Rachel Chard.
