      Motorcyclist leads police on high speed chase

      A 25-minute high speed chase led to the arrest of a 22-year-old Escanaba man on Wednesday morning.

      According to the Michigan State Police, the suspect fled from troopers on US-41 near Dukes Road in Skandia Township after police attempted to pull him over at around 4:06 a.m. Speeds during the chase were in excess of 100 mph at times, according to officials.

      Police reported that the suspect lost control of his Yamaha SZ-1 motorcycle on US-2 after trying to turn around on the gravel shoulder. He was taken into custody after the crash, but he was not injured.

      The 22-year-old man is in the Marquette County Jail awaiting arraignment on charges of fleeing and eluding police and operating while intoxicated.
