Multiple building fires, visible for miles

Aftermath of Stoneington Peninsula fire / Jerry Ruether
An early morning fire in Delta County was visible for miles. According to a source with the Ensign Fire Department, firefighters were paged shortly after 5 a.m. Wednesday after homeowners awoke to find their business on fire. The blaze was located at a business called Knock On Wood in Stonington. Two structures were ablaze when firefighters arrived. No one was hurt, and firefighters were still at the scene as of 10:30 a.m. Wednesday. One issue is that the business had large stacks of oak for woodworking stacked in the buildings. These stacks are still quite hot and could flare up at any time. The cause of the fire has not been determined. The primary responding fire department is Masonville, with assistance from Ensign and Brampton Townships.
