Music groups look to end school year on high note

A trio of high school musical groups are banding together to end the year on a high note.

The Voices in Motion Choral Ensemble rehearsed for their upcoming "Dinner and a Show" at Westwood High School in Ishpeming Township Thursday morning. The show will also feature the Voices in Motion Junior Group and the school's jazz band.

With budget cuts looming on the horizon, the show's director says the unique format will be a fun, new way to motivate the students to raise money.

"I do think, because of the different format of the show and they have to work directly with the people involved, they will be the ones serving the meal. Yes, they definitely are more motivated to serve the public and raise money," said Director Tony Beacco.

"Not only will they get great entertainment, but they're getting treated to a dinner as well, so it's more of a professional experience," said Jarrett Davidson, a senior student.

"Dinner and a Show" begins at 6 p.m. in Westwood's cafeteria on May 19. Tickets are $15 and can be purchased at the school's principal's office, but hurry! As of Thursday morning, there were only five tickets left.
