      Mutual aid called to Powell Township structure fire

      A home in Powell Township is a total loss after an early morning fire. Firefighters remain at scene as of 8:00 a.m. Thursday.

      The fire broke out at 902 Saux Head Lake Road sometime after 2:00 a.m. Smoke alarms alerted the three persons in the building to the fire, and they escaped without injury. The home is a total loss, sustaining major fire, smoke and water damage. The family does have homeowners insurance. The homeowner's name has not been released at this time.

      The preliminary investigation shows that the fire was most likely cause by ashes from a wood stove that were left on the porch.

      Firefighters from Powell Township were assisted by Marquette Township Fire Department, along with the Powell Township EMS, and the Michigan State Police.
