This Saturday, everyone has a rare chance to get a look inside the National Weather Service Office in Negaunee Township.
The office will hold an open house from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m., rain or shine. Plenty of activities are on the docket, including information regarding floods, wildfires, and other hazardous weather. A portable weather lab from the University of Wisconsin is expected to be at the open house launching a couple of weather balloons, which is something that doesn't typically happen at this weather office. There will also be plenty of children's activities to help instill weather safety.
"It's really an opportunity for folks in the community to come out and see their local National Weather Service Office; see behind the scenes on how we try to predict the unpredictable weather up here in Upper Michigan," says Matt Zika of the National Weather Service. "It's really kind of an enjoyable time for any weather enthusiast up here in Upper Michigan."
The National Weather Service Office is located on Airpark Drive, just north of US-41 in Negaunee Township.
