Thursday at the U.P. State Fair was Native American Awareness Day! This is the first time it's been celebrated in 16 years.
The Hannahville Indian Community decided it was time to bring it back and share their culture with the community. There were native crafts, vendors, and food, of course.
A pow-wow, complete with traditional native dress and drummers, wowed guests.
"It's just an opportunity for the Hannahville Indian community to share what our culture is with the surrounding community, and just educate them on Great Lakes Area Native American culture," said Molly Meshigaud, a Culture Committee Member.
The Culture Committee says they centered the awareness day around what they hold dear: Pride for their culture.
