      Negaunee students celebrate class picnic

Students at Negaunee Middle School enjoyed the beautiful weather today with their class picnic at Ishpeming's Al Quaal Recreation Area.

The eight grade class celebrated the end of the school year by signing yearbooks, playing games and having a picnic underneath the pavilion. Teachers and parent volunteers ran the event as a way to honor the class.

"We've been doing this for the past several years and it's kind of a nice way to send our eighth graders off to high school," said Principal Dan Skewis. "They've been with us for the past three years and this particular group has been an awesome class. Since the time they came in as sixth graders they've impressed us so it's a great way to honor them and the weather turned out perfect."

Negaunee Middle School students will have their last day of school tomorrow. A carnival is planned for the eighth graders at the end of the day to kick off the start of summer vacation.
