A new bike race is attracting hundreds of bicyclists to Ishpeming.
The first Red Earth Classic takes place on Saturday September 21. Organizers want to make Ishpeming a biking destination for tourists. Some of the money raised will go to the Start the Cycle program, helping at-risk teenagers in the area. The classic offers an 18 mile or 35 mile race. To prepare, the race directors and volunteers have spent thousands of dollars improving the signs around the trails."The new improvements are awesome. It's a great addition to what we've got going here in Ishpeming and I think it's a good start to maybe a lot more of this kind of activity," said Fran Sevegny who will be competing in the Red Earth Classic.
