Thu, 03 Apr 2014 07:28:09 GMT — Three candidates a national political group with ties to conservative billionaires Charles and David Koch has labeled as anti-mine have won seats on the Iron County Board. The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports that Victor Ouimette, Brad Matson and Karl Krall all defeated incumbent board members in Tuesday's elections. Ouimette, Matson and Krall were among seven candidates the group Americans for Prosperity branded as opposing Gogebic Taconite's plans for a Penokee Hills iron mine. The group circulated two mailings in Iron County in recent weeks aimed at getting supervisors who supported iron mining elected. One mailing was critical of candidates the group identified as mine opponents; the other backed mine supporters. Four of those candidates won Tuesday.
