New CEO named at Marquette General Hospital

Marquette General Health System, a Duke LifePoint Hospital, has named their new CEO.

Ed Banos has been named to take over for Gary Muller as Chief Executive Officer for Marquette General Hospital, effective January 1. Banos has served as President and Chief Operating Officer of MGH since May.

??Duke LifePoint and the MGH Board of Trustees are confident that Ed is the best, most qualified candidate to fill this important role. Since joining Marquette General in May, Ed has proven himself to be an effective leader and has already made significant contributions to the organization,?? said Jeff Seraphine, President of the Eastern Group for LifePoint Hospitals.

Banos has more than 25 years of experience in hospital administration and executive roles for health care organizations. Banos came to MGH after serving as System President and CEO for Good Shepherd Health System in Longview, TX. Prior to that, he served as COO for Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA and as CEO at North Shore Medical Center in Miami, FL.

??We are pleased to have Ed serve as the top leader for our hospital system,?? said Brad Cory, chair of MGH Board of Trustees. ??Ed brings a rich knowledge of managing hospital systems, like Marquette General. We??re eager to have him lead our organization into the future.??

Banos holds a master??s degree in Health Administration from Armstrong Atlantic State University. He earned a bachelor of science degree in Health Records Administration from the University of Pittsburgh.

??I am excited about the opportunity to lead MGH into the future,?? said Banos. ??We have a great team of employees, physicians and volunteers, and I look forward to working with them to continue strengthening our hospital and growing our services to meet the health care needs of residents of the Upper Peninsula.??

Former CEO Gary Muller stepped down from the MGH senior executive post at year-end and will continue serving as president and CEO of Superior Health Partners until his scheduled retirement in February.

Superior Health Partners is an affiliation of nine Upper Peninsula Hospitals and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan.

TV6 & FOX UP will be speaking with the newly named CEO on Friday, and you can catch that on the TV6 Early News at 6 p.m.
