The Schoolcraft Memorial Hospital is now open. Friday was the official ribbon cutting and open house and patients will be moving in on April 22.
The hospital and rural health clinic boasts two operating rooms, an emergency room, and new radiology equipment. There is more efficient patient access and 12 private patient rooms. The community members toured the hospital, which officials hope will be home to new physicians and surgeons.
"This is the last time people in the community will be able to see inside an operating room other than as a patient," said Hospital CEO George Montgomery. "They'll be able to tour all that today and then after today, we'll get all the equipment installed and then move on the 22nd."
About 240 employees will move into the new hospital. The old hospital is expected to be demolished this summer.
