There is a brand new playground at Van Riper State Park in Champion for kids to enjoy. The playground was made possible by a group called Friends of Van Riper and Craig Lake State Parks.
It took three years, donations from the community, and collecting cans around the park to raise more than $26,000 for the playground to be completed.
The new playground offers a swing set, two slides, and an interactive game for kids.
"We pulled into the park last night about 9:30 and it was just great. The playground was full of kids and that's what we're here for," said Carl Hosang, President of Friends of Van Riper and Craig Lake State Parks.
"It means a lot to me. I think it's going to be fun to do. Me and my cousin like to play on it, too," said Taylor Ragusett.
Organizers said they plan on raising more money so they can build another playground down by the beach.
