New sports bar in Marquette serves up beer and burgers

There's new place in an old location where guests can watch their favorite team while sipping their favorite brew.

"The first couple weeks we've been open, we obviously did a soft opening. Just trying to get the kitchen used to making the food, the quality that we expect. It's been good. People have been coming up here, checking it out. Great Saturday football crowd last week," said Kurt Ghiardi, Manager of 906 Sports Bar & Grill.

With six beers on tap, a menu full of burgers and sandwiches, and 12 HD TVs, 906 Sports Bar & Grill in Marquette is prepared for any game, big or small.

The place just opened about a week and a half ago, and has already seen big business.

There's a staff of 20, and everyone we talked with said they're having a blast at the job.

"So far, it's been awesome. Everyone's been really friendly, everyone works together good," said Lauren Nottle, Server/Bartender.

906 took over the space formerly known as the Blue Lounge.

Residents questioned the need for another sports bar in town, but Ghiardi says the food quality and the views make 906 unique.

"One thing people notice that they didn't in the past was the views that we have up here. A great view of Lake Superior on one side, and we have a nice view of Marquette Mountain and such, looking over Marquette the other direction," said Ghiardi.

Some employees have a lot of experience in the restaurant and bar scenes, but say they love the atmosphere of 906 the most.

Nottle is a veteran bartender, but says she enjoys serving more because she's able to talk with her guests in a personable way.

"It's the same bartending, but you get to interact with more people. You get to have more conversations. When you're behind the bar, you talk to people, but (with serving) you get to know them from the outside, too," said Nottle.

906 Sports bar & grill serves lunch and dinner and happy hour specials daily.

The kitchen is open Sunday through Thursday from 11a.m. to 9p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 11a.m. to 10p.m.

The bar is open seven days a week 11a.m. until 2a.m., unless business dictates otherwise.
