Northern Michigan University officials discovered several gnomes spray painted on their buildings Wednesday.
Now they're looking for those who painted the graffiti. Three buildings were spray painted with gnomes, including the Forest Roberts Theatre and Lee Hall. Officials say it looks like the person used a stencil to spray paint them on. Some buildings had at least 20 gnomes painted on the wall.
"We do not approve of anything like this on our campus," says NMU spokesperson Derek Hall. "We're preparing eagerly for the return of students next week, and having graffiti on our buildings is not part of that preparation."
NMU Public Safety will continue to monitor the area for the person who painted them. Crews have already begun to remove the gnomes by pressure washing.
