      NMU presidential candidates start interviews

Northern Michigan University welcomed the first candidate interviewing for the position of University President, Robert Ackerman. Ackerman has a legal background as a Professor of Law and is the former Dean of Wayne State University Law School. He spoke to a full house at the University Center Thursday afternoon about what makes him a good fit for NMU. Ackerman briefly explained how he plans to tackle some of the challenges NMU faces.

"Part of the challenge is faced by establishing priorities and realizing that we can't be all things to all people," Ackerman said. "Part of it is taking the steps to ensure enrollment growth and part of it is through philanthropy, you show that you're a value to the community."

Friday the NMU Board of Trustees will hold a feedback session at 2 p.m. at the University Center. Throughout the month three more candidates will be interviewed for the position.
