The Knights of Columbus in Negaunee is helping out a Negaunee woman battling cancer. They'll host a benefit for her this week.
Twenty-three-year-old Rachael Beacco was diagnosed with stage three colon cancer and has recently completed her first round of treatment at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.
About 100 businesses have provided donations and items to be auctioned off this Thursday.
"It feels great when you know that something's happening and you're down and out that people are going to step up and help you in any way they possibly can," said organizer Karie Belanger. "As you walk along the streets of Negaunee or into Marquette County or in the stores and you see the 'No one fights alone' t-shirts, you just have that feeling like when someone needs help, we step up and help in any way we can."
The benefit is from 4-7 p.m. Thursday at the Knights of Columbus in Negaunee. The suggested donation amount is six dollars at the door. There's a picnic-style dinner, live music, and a 50-50 raffle.
All the money raised will go to help Rachael off-set her medical expenses. The Beacco family is thankful for the overwhelming support shown by the community for Rachael.
Rachael is one of our directors here at TV6 and FOX UP, and we all wish her the speediest of recoveries.
