Thanks to one officer's extensive training, the streets of Delta County will be a little safer.
Officer Eric Willour is now one of five drug recognition experts in the Upper Peninsula.
Using a 12-step process, Officer Willour is able to recognize and identify impaired drivers, and the category of drug they are using. DRE officers are trained to detect drugs ranging from hallucinogens to stimulants, including fad drugs such as bath salts.
"There are a lot of people that are out there driving on the roads that are impaired that people many not realize, and I'm hoping that we can limit that so people can have a safe drive through the UP," said Willour.
Since his first day in the position last Tuesday, Willour's training has already been put to use, responding to at least one impaired driving report.
