Olympic gold medalist visits YMCA Swim Clinic

Kids at the Escanaba Northern Lights YMCA got a special treat when Olympic gold medalist, Peter Vanderkaay, visited and gave them pointers on their swim technique.

Vanderkaay swam for Team USA in the 2004 and 2008 Olympic Games. He also competed in last year's London 2012 Olympics. Vanderkaay said, "The Olympic experience was great. I was really proud to represent Team USA. Today, we're doing a Swim Clinic, working on technique. I'm also talking to the kids about my experiences, hopefully giving them motivation."

Vanderkaay won gold and bronze medals in all three of the Olympic games he competed in. He showed the kids technical points they can take to swim practice, such as stroke and dive technique.

In a morning Swim Clinic, Vanderkaay instructed kids ages 12 and up. Following, he instructed another class of younger swimmers.
