We've brought you couple stories about the Swajanen sisters, the champion weightlifters from Marquette. Recently it was learned that Hannah, the older of the two, was diagnosed with a brain tumor.
Wednesday night, Marquette showed an outpouring of support for the Swajanen family, the line into the American Legion of Marquette stretched hundreds of people long. They were waiting to attend a spaghetti dinner to help raise money for the family's medical expenses.
The family was incredibly grateful for the way the community responded, and was surprised by how many attended.
??I was really surprised when I saw the people here. I was like, really happy all the people are supporting me?? said Hannah.
Hundreds of local businesses donated everything from food, to t-shirts, to silent auction and bucket raffle items. Hannah's surgery is expected to last between eight to 10 hours, and her recovery anywhere from three to eight months.
Both Hannah and her family are confident the procedure scheduled for May 21 will go smoothly.
