Michigamme Township officials say by November, downtown Michigamme will be completely redone. It's all thanks to grants totaling over $600,000.
The township received a $281,581 grant from the Michigan Economic Development Corporation for street improvements. The improvements will include new signs, sidewalks, and streetlamps.
The township also received $350,000 from the Michigan Department of Transportation to redo the streets of the downtown's five blocks.
"Hopefully this will help revitalize our downtown area," said Alvar Maki, Michigamme Township Supervisor. "This is the first step in making things better for reinvestment here."
All the renovations will be done simultaneously this summer. They will all be completed by October or November.
