Churchgoers all over the U.P. celebrated Christmas on Sunday. Many in the U.P. were even granted a white Christmas, like at the Mitchell United Methodist Church in Negaunee. All attendees were welcomed with open arms. Festive decorations were all around to brighten the day. Music, before and during the service, was provided by the Underground Praise Band in addition to the church organ.
Traditional hymns, like Good Christian Friends Rejoice, were sung by the congregation. Christmas Eve was reportedly a full house, but the Christmas service was somewhat lacking in attendance.
"So we have to look at, what are we doing on this date? And with it being Sunday, it might be easy to sleep in and say, well I was here last night, but still, this is a time that we worship," Rev. Douglas Mater said.
Regardless of how many attended, the service was joyous and well received.
